DESCRIPTION
The project was executed for Continental Coffee Processing Unit in Tada (AP). This is a hybrid project combining space frames and PEB columns. Since this is a hybrid project it proved to be very economical (close to 20% cost savings) approx 800 Tonnes saved.
CHALLENGES FACED
CCL is a massive structure; it’s an eight-story tower building 43 meters high with different floor clear heights. This tower area was designed to take loads of various rotational equipment with vibrational loads. It was a challenge to accommodate all the design elements into one model ( Multi Story Building, PEB, Spaceframes ). We built the column layouts suitable for the coffee processing machinery layout. The orientation of a few columns rotated up to 90 degrees was challenging to accommodate in the design. Maximum spacing of 20 meters between the bay was put-together with the combination of Spaceframe and PEB instead of standard PEB rafters. We also designed a 20 metered Jack Beam and 14 metered Cantilever Canopy to accommodate the layout.
RISK MANAGEMENT
Considering cost-effectiveness, we used the split space frame technology. At the time of its installation, there was a sudden breakage in the High Tensile Bolt at the bottom chord of the space frame. Our team immediately resolved the problem and saved the structure from further damages. We assembled a 36 meters length space frame on ground level with well-organized and proper planning. The vast assemblies were lifted and connected simultaneously at 30 meters with four giant capacity cranes. The building dimension is 134 m X 138 m X 16 m. / G + 8.
