DESCRIPTION
Karpagam University, Coimbatore.
CHALLENGES FACED
A curved, flowing roof structure was constructed for the outdoor stadium at Karpagam University. The roof was topped with the steel-formed wave-like Spline Curve Structure. It was built in an area of 3250 Sq.Mtrs. Special Umbrella columns were designed to hold the Wave Pattern Rafters. The Design of the Structure is not unsymmetric and thus the Installation process had to be meticulously planned since the eccentric loading had to be managed while hoisting.
RISK MANAGEMENT
As with every Spline Curves wave Structure, installation is a challenge because of its unsymmetrical Shape. Contracting the uneven forces along with ‘ V ‘ Shaped massive Circular columns was extremely risky. However, our IronWorking team manages to install the structure successfully just because of their experience of handling such structures.
And the major challenge was to strengthen additional deflection of 30mm encountered at the cantilever portion above the design limit.
